For a long time, steel frame building has been the norm for business and commercial structures. Steel frames are almost indestructible; they won’t bend, crack, break, rot, or twist. Steel framing is dependable, sturdy, and resistant to damage. Steel beams and columns will not warp or become permeated when exposed to water.
Steel does not combust or ignite. It does not produce smoke or spread fire. Therefore, it doesn’t help fire spread.
Steel outperforms wood in terms of strength-to-weight ratio. So, compared to wood, steel is both lighter and stronger. By enabling wider frame spacing and larger bays compared to wood, more usable floor space can be achieved. A house with a steel frame can be built in a fraction of the time it would take to build a traditional home because the frames are prefabricated offsite.
Reduced scrap and construction site waste result from the factory-built nature of most steel-framed houses. Structural steel also meets the criteria for sustainable design standards, such as the National Green Building Standard (ICC-700), ASHRAE Standard 189.1, and the International Green Construction Code (IgCC). It is also recyclable.
Quality control and assurance processes are used in the engineering of steel. This process ensures the ductility and reserve strength of this sturdy material as well as its improved structural integrity in the face of unfavorable weather, fire, or explosive events.
Houses with steel frames are impervious to wood-destroying insects and rodents. That means you don’t have to worry about the structure of your home suffering damage due to common pests like termites, carpenter ants, and others.
